Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I think he looks quite nice. If I had to nit pick I would say his tail is a little short. What does his chest look like? Is he nice and broad?

He was in a pen with 3 other roos so his tail is a little roughed up.
His chest is pretty broad and free of color. I'll try to get a better frontal pic.

Well I personally think he look really good. I'm still training my eye on the Black Coppers but I would be tickled to have a roo this good for my flock!

That's the way the tails are suppose to look. They are not suppose to have long sickle feathers as you see most males have.

I don't mean that he needs big curvy feathers, but when I compare his tail to this:


it just seems a little lacking. I guess I said it looks "short" when really I meant it just looks ruffled- like he said from other roosters going after him.

When do BCMs start showing copper? I have a 10-11 week old BCM, all shiny black. No sign of copper anywhere. I've done a search and looked through various marans threads, but haven't come across an answer.

It varies, sometimes as late as lay, sometimes never but they are still BCM.
