Black Copper Marans discussion thread

my 1st thoughts exactly,,,,,then I clicked and was surprised
Seriously though, I have a pullet that's been laying eggs VERY much like this - I'll try to get a pic this weekend. She's from Ernie Haire (TX).

Hi, can somebody help me? I am new to raising chickens and would like help figuring out how to help my Black Copper Maran chicken. She was the one with less feathers on the legs from her siblings and the only of her breed that I have. I just noticed that her legs are swollen in the feathered area of her leg where there are feather barely poking through and blood on some of them. There doesn't seem to be much redness. I was having a hard time getting a decent photo since she is the shyest of the 4. I have had them since last may (they are 10 months old now) and have treated their coop with Diatomaceous earth and they don't seem to be caused by scaly leg mites since the rest of the leg looks ok; the other chickens' legs look normal too.
Please advise, are these ingrown feathers? is this a common problem with feathered legs? or is it something else? would rubbing Neosporin on the swollen area help?
I am worried and don't want this to develop into a bigger problem. Any input will be great!
Thank you!!

I posted these boys over on the general Marans thread but did not get a lot of response so thought I'd try here. Hatched in Dec so about 9-10 weeks. These two boys did not have any white in their wings or tail feathers. I don't have any chick pics of them, but in general the whole lot looked like BCM tho some had very little white on the face, I couldn't tell you if these two were some of them or not.
Boy #1

and boy #2

Since I am only breeding black copper in Marans, they will be culls, but wondering if they should go to freezer camp or if they are a color/variety someone might want to work with?

I'm not sure as far as breeding wise but I can tell you there are plenty of people who would want them for an egg flock and are those zip ties?
