Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Hello, I have three cockerels and only need one, so....anyone want to help me cull? They are roughly nine weeks. The third is the smallest but not by a whole lot.

Cockerel #1

Cockerel #2

Cockerel #3

Below are the only two pullets I have, and an older splash girl. (Ignore the two Ams in the pic)

That's it! That is all I have so any help on which cockerel to keep will be appreciated!

I'm not up to talking about the cockerels but your splash hen is so pretty.. Love that color!!

Well I'm getting little BCM pullet eggs now, but I know not all of the girls are laying yet, hope some of them are even darker. I just don't know which ones are laying for sure at the moment and which ones are just on the brink. I've been averaging about 1 a day from 9 pullets, but they are different shapes, sizes and shades.

This is yesterday's eggs, the only BCM is the one on the right front, the one next to it is a Welsummer pullet and the other dark brown one is from my 'other' girl. lol, I got her in a batch of EE and have no idea of her parentage; she's tiny, smaller than the other EE, mostly red and has a single comb.

the next row back are two eggs from Welsummer/leghorn crosses, then 3 Buff Orpingtons and 6 from my EE girls.

Thanks, I like her too. She only lays two eggs a week if I am lucky. Do marans just not lay well?

some lay amazingly well, and others are horrible. I like number one, because his coloring is coming along nicely, and he has a nice back and head shape, but doesn't have feathered feet. I like number two because of his over all shape, and look, but he should have some more color on him by now. Number three has good color, good shape, and good feathering, but if he's really small he might not be the best idea.

Here is my one and only blue copper maran and i was wondering if you guys thinks this is a pullet or a roo because it is the biggest in the bunch but it has a pinkish comb?

It is hard to see in this photo but this chick has a greenish black comb and has more feathers and is getting its tail feathers faster than a lot of the others.

my 6 Black coppers and 1 blue copper.

this chick here is questioning me because i dont know if its a black copper or a darker blue copper. what do you guys think?

blue copper maran

You can see in this photo that the chick on the left has more feathers and tail feathers than the one next to it so roo?

another photo of the one that's either a blue copper maran or a BCM
Your blue chick is a boy, he already has copper on his head.
