Black Copper Marans discussion thread

It is hard to tell from the picture angle, but the blue copper boy looks ok to me.  That first black copper would be dinner here, he's all chest & no butt (and thanks Wynette & others for teaching me to look for balance!)  From what I can see the second boy is much better looking; just try and mate him  with hens with good leg feathering.

Ok thank you for the feedback. I think I will do that.

They are all about eight months old. Here is a pic of the blue roo as a chick. It seemed like the white feathers in his tail just popped up about a month ago. I was kind of disappointed because he's the only one I got grown out.
Sometimes it can show up as late as 2 years. At his age I'd just wait and watch.

WHERE might I buy ~ a good source to buy healthy Black Copper Maran birds, In the Mid-Atlantic area, please?
Thank You Sincerely,
Honeybadgeress

PLEASE, what can you feed the girls to PREVENT any eggs laid up inside?
Spinach, perhaps?
As a complete Newbie, would DEFINITELY appreciate the Wisdom of my Elders in this field.
Thanks Most Sincerely,
Honeybadgeress
PS: Any raising literature recommended, particularly in this breed-specifically,
I would greatly honor.

Hi HB!

Are you just looking for a small flock for table eggs? What part of the mid Atlantic?

Your state thread can be a big help in locating specific breeds

What do ya'll think about this guy? I couldn't get a good shot of him but this was the best pic. To my untrained eye his color balance isn't very good and he has the halo and very little shank feathering. My main questions are about his comfimation, i think that's the right word lol. His tail angle looks pretty good to me. He kinda seems low to the ground or maybe its how he's standing. But anyway i'm sure you guys have a better eye than I do. Any thoughts?

This is my new BCM I am hoping to use this spring. He is from some nice dark eggs so I'd like to use him over some Splash and Black Copper hens. His comb has a slight wave in the front also. I like his attitude very much and he and the Splash boys are good together so far. I'd like to do a splash and bc pen.

Wow he is maturing very nicely. He is a great looking rooster. I hope the pullets lay some dark eggs for you too. You will have to contact me once you have your pens set up and they are laying so we can discuss eggs :)
