Has anyone else noticed that the marans are really dirty birds? I have 9 marans (8 hens and 1 rooster ) plus 5 other hens of different breeds. I find the marans are always filthy and never clean them selfs... Where I leave the winters are rainy and muddy but my other breeds are always clean.

Just curious if anyone else has noticed this or if it's just my marans...

I have to say, this is one of the oddest posts regarding Marans I've ever seen. Very interesting observation!

Why are black copper marans considered rare?[/. Not sure if they are really rare but have you ever tried getting decent breeding stock? I have worked through 4 attempts to get a starting spread over three years and i still dont have a single quality keeper. I have some eggs in the incubator that i hope will give a few birds that i can build on. Are they rare ??? You sure can find lots of people selling them just not very many people selling from solid lines... Almost none!
