Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Not this year. Funny enough we are going to be keeping about every roo we can just so we can have our pick of an heir plus spare. Why not Que?

I mean no disrespect, but since you asked - his wing carriage is way too low. It should be horizontal. His back is too short, and his hackle too light. His station is a bit too low, as well, but that wouldn't be a point issue (at least I don't believe it would be for this male). His eye is a bit too light, but withing where it ought to be. You'll be fighting a whole lot of issues with this male. But, I realize many need to use what they have. Again, no disrespect intended.

Here is a pic of what one should look more like at POL! Her colour looks a little washed out in this pic., it is brighter in person.

The gypsy faced girl was culled :) Thank you GaryDean26 for clarifying my post!

I VERY much like this female, Zanna! Is her eye color correct? It almost looks dark, but that could be the picture. Based on ehr body/hackle coloring, it seems like her eye should be right. Would love to see this female posed from the side, perpendicular to the camera. Would like to see her overall balance. Well done, lady!

I believe her eye colour to be correct but honestly, with the new breeding season I have not looked at her too closely lately, she was a later hatch last year and I haven't used her in the breeding pen yet. Just starting to pen them all individually to figure out what egg shade they are laying, and coming up with plans for a few other issues....... Will get some recent pics of her when it is her turn.... Thanks for the Kudos, I like her too!

Great job Zanna ! I like this gal, you should be very happy with the work you've accomplished. Keep up the good work, see you in the " winner's circle "

Can anyone tell me what this extra piece of flesh / comb is on this pullet ???

She has shown it very early on, hatched mid December, and I have never seen one like it before and she is the only one that seems to have it. She's a rather nice pullet otherwise, with very good size,,, just not sure what to make of the extra " knob " ,,,,, thoughts ???
Has anyone ever seen this before on a Marans,,, do you think it will breed forward ???

probably extra skin from the comb. (comb deformity) nothing life threatening
