Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Agreed that she looks like a black sex link. If she has a straight comb she probably isn't an Olive Egger. Kinda odd that she has feathered legs though. She's probably just a barnyard mix with some BCM in her. At least she looks like a pullet! She might be a good layer regardless.

Well, that is kind of disappointing since this so-called breeder is selling them as pure BCMs.... :barnie Oh well, I love her no matter what she is. Fits her name perfect, such a LoveBug! :love

Thank you ochochicas and DoubleMM for your help!

Hi all. Anyone have BCMs from Greenfire? I scrapped my old group for multiple problems, and purchased two boxes of chicks from GFF this spring. So far the group is much better than my last, and the egg color is nice. Their first babies are in the incubator chirping away right now

GFF also imported some new blood from Europe this year that the will debut next spring. I can't wait to see pics of them.

I will post pics of mine this week. Here are the eggs in the incubator along side a batch of Bielefelders...

Can any one tell me what's wrong with this eggs from one of my bcm

Not all BCM's will lay dark eggs. It's genetics. I would suggest not to breed that hen. To get dark eggs you have to breed the hens that have the color or close to the color of eggs you want. Some times it takes time to get the color of eggs you want.

I don't think the question was as much about the color, as it was about the round shape and the little "roma tomato" points on the tips

LOL. Then I would ask how old? And again it could be the same answer as above but for the shape. Hens lay all different shapes. Even from the same breed. If you don't like that shape of egg than don't breed that hen. Only thing I can tell yea.

Some of our BCM X Barred Rock sexlinks have some feathering and some have some copper also. I agree there is definitely some other blood in the pullet pictured.

My beauty. She's about 20 weeks old now. I'm still waiting for her to lay. I'm new to chickens and have never owned a FBCM before so am not sure if her coloring is right or anything. All I know is she is sweet as pie!
