Black Copper Marans discussion thread

My first time raising bcm...I'm finding it hard to pick a favorite, my three boys are 15 weeks.
This guy is the alpha, I like the way he holds his tail...wish he had more feathers on his shanks, but he has a nice weight.

This one I probably wont keep....he was a late bloomer and still hasn't grown out a tail. I don't like his comb, but, I love his beetle green...it's more so then the other two.
Do you think he will develop more color around his hackles?

I'm thinking his tail is carried a bit high. His only fault that I know of....

All three have such lovely temperaments and came from a dark egg. I only wish I had a bcm pullet for them.

I'm not sure on the SOP of the BCM's, But the 3rd one's comb doesn't rap around his head. For HRIR's it's not a DQ but would lose points. And won't be a breeder.

Oh! Interesting. Looks like she has a single comb... Does that change anything?

I have a pullet that looks identical to yours. Mine also was from supposed pure non-crossed FBCM. I think they call her coloring "mossy". :idunno
I'm just waiting on eggs.....

On Marans, the blade should not touch the neck. So it should NOT wrap around the head like a RIR.
Oh thanks...I just have a small back yard flock and want to breed bcm for dark eggs, but I want them to look right...It may be a little early to judge the coloring since they keep getting more and more color every day...but I was wondering if others could tell about their body type at 3 months of age. They come from a good lineage so I'm hopeful. I guess their combs are not good...anything else?
