IDK..... I just saw a video on how chickens make eggs and remembered the part about the fat end coming out first. Seemed backwards.

On our Marans eggs that have a definite large and small end, I've seen more pigment on either end on different days...so no help there. When I get an egg without a clearly smaller end, I candle them. That having been said, I just candled a batch of dark eggs for lockdown and one of them has been incubated upside down. I have no idea how I messed that one up... the aircell is now on the side of the egg and that's the way I'll put it in the hatcher. Hoping for the best...Need some help from the experts. I am ready to set some really round eggs and cant tell which end is which... The only clue I have is that one end is darker than the other...some pigment spots etc. Any thoughts on which end would have the air cell?
Well i am going to have to put them in they way i am leaning and will candle in a few days to see if I can determine the air cell. Here is one that was laid on a hard nest box and was cracked on what I believe is the large end . I even peeled the shell away but want 100 % that the air cell was at that endOn our Marans eggs that have a definite large and small end, I've seen more pigment on either end on different days...so no help there. Not that I would really want to do this but could you tell by floating them? IDK just a thought. The first pic looks like the big end is UP and the bottom one looks like the big end is down..... I have some like that too.... I just guess.
i agree. in the first pic it looks like the pointy end is up. try getting a pic from exactly over the top of the egg.Not that I would really want to do this but could you tell by floating them? I agree with Donna The first pic shows the egg with the "dented" side up and The second pic shows the "dented" side down.My theory is that the pullet was standing when she laid the egg and and it was dented on the large end when it dropped onto the wood... Love, love, love the round eggs but it sure makes it hard to set them!i agree. in the first pic it looks like the pointy end is up. try getting a pic from exactly over the top of the egg.
