Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Yeah, I lost all my Marans chicks to Marek's last year, even the Marans crosses. It seems like they have little to no natural immunity to it. Now my chicks are vaccinated on day 1 and have to spend the next 3 weeks living in isolation in our shower until they build up enough immunity to live in the real world.

I have a local breeder selling black copper marans for $10 a piece, and blue copper marans for $12.50 each - is this a decent price for these guys? I was really interested in picking up some of the blue coppers.

Must be line dependent because mine seem to be pretty immune to Marek's. I lost several other birds of different breeds to it last year but had little problem with my Marans.

totally varies... the least epensive I have seen is $8 each, the most I know for sure was $15... and both was for straight run.

I sell my Cottage hill chicks for 10.00 a piece straight run.

Yes, his copper is super dark

Yes, he has no feathers on his legs or feet

Yes, the color of his feet is TERRIBLE

But, is he a Marans?

I don't think so with those white legs and his body type.

That color leg counts as white? I thought they looked pink.

He lacks substance and balance. Shanks should be slate for a BCM. Many things point to him being other than Marans.
