I have thought ab a marans rooster but my hen scares the **** out of me lol....she is like half dinosaur she is so big. Her sqwuak is like a raptor breaking out of the pen lol. Id LOVE to see photos of yalls big impressive marans roosters and hear if they are nice or mean?

The personality barometer with Marans is varied. Our hen was a quiet nipper. She'd nip anything that crossed her path. One day she tried to depose the alpha Leghorn but the little hen put the Marans in her place. Next the Marans roosted next to a gentle Silkie and dominantly pecked the little bird bald! The final straw for us was when she outright viciously attacked a 6-month Silkie pullet so we re-homed the Marans immediately. Eventually we chose to re-home all our dual purpose breeds in lieu of keeping the more gentle timid non-combative breeds in our backyard flock. We've concluded for ourselves that dual purpose breeds do better with other heavy egg-layer types rather than be offered the temptation to mingle with gentler, timid, or smaller breeds in a small area. When we re-homed our Marans with other assertive dual purpose birds she continued being a nipper but the alpha leaders did not permit her to behave badly.

I have a BCMrooster with a great personality. One of the best dispositions of all my roosters. Problem is he has some severe faults, halo, comb issues, etc..., but he's all I have right now. I'm hatching 30 or so of his chicks to grow out over the winter. If I don't come up with something better, I will give him some Am hens and search for a better roo next year
