Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I have fertile bcm eggs!!!!!!!!!!!! So....how do you candle a bcm egg???????

Dark room, brightest light you can find, candled from the fat end down. I use a Brinsea Ova view, and it's just barely enough to illuminate the inside of the egg. I can see a little veining in the lighter eggs around day 7, but by day ten I'm just watching air cell development.

Dark room and a Mini Maglite. Preferably the old fashioned non LED kind, but I have a new really bright LED one that will do Marans eggs pretty well.
Low tech- easily used- I put the light in my hand, close it and sit the egg on my closed fist. But yeah after about 14 days I'm mostly watching the aircell and the lower end of the egg.

Opinions on this guy please. I have to replace mine as he feathered in all wrong and is nasty. This is one that's near me for sale.

The tail is high, but I don't know if it's too high. The hackles have the halo that some folks stay away from. Some say it's wheaten influence and others say it's not.

I have a BCM cockerel coming up with feathers on his middle toe. Is that an early cull or would you still keep him if the rest of him looks good?
