It's hard to understand the faults if you can't see them, and I just happen to have a good visual representation of most of themThank you for posting the rooster. I learned a lot today. This is one complicated hobby if you are interested in more than just eating eggs.
I have a rooster right now but he would never pass muster not only is he very faulty.... he only has one wing. He leaves tomorrow. None of my chickens are at pol. It's hard to understand the faults if you can't see them, and I just happen to have a good visual representation of most of them![]()
When I saw snowbird was online, I was hoping he would explain them for you guys. The first time I heard it, it was crushing, but Don taught me a lot. He's known this rooster was wrong since it was six weeks old
Don, what about a male that has a split point? Breed or not based on that?
Dan
If that is a white wing feather he would be a cull at my place. I never breed to Marans with white in Hackle, Wing and tail.OK Marans gurus. I am to the cull point on a group of cockerels, but these pics are of my selected keeper, and his favorite pullet. He is a beautiful mahogany, and she is dark. I selected this guy for color and nice comb, but any comments on type and form would be appreciated. These are early morning shots, so they are shady, and he wasn't in a cooperative mood. Given the poor pics, what do you all think of this guy?

OK everyone. It turns out that the guy had a few roosters to choose from. This is the one i picked. I know he's very dark but he doesn't have the extra points on his comb and he has the nice dark hackles. Most of them were very light colored with halos. These pictures aren't great due to lighting but it's the best i could do with my tablet. He's roughly 6 months old so he has so filling out to do. Bring on the critiques.
