Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I bought some Black Copper, Blue, and Splash Marans. They are about 6 weeks old. I noticed when I was worming they have deformed feet and green instead of orange eyes. Suggestions?

Show a photo of the feet. Most 6 week old Marans have green-gray eyes that turn to Bay often right before or around maturity or point of lay.

hi all black copper maran lover's. Love all the picture.

Why did my cockerels turn out like this? Only 1 of 8 has a mostly black chest. Parent stock was nicely coloured.

Don't quote me on this as I'm no expert but from what I've heard, good colored parents on both sides can lead to over colored offspring. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though.

That pretty normal to get over coloured chicks from a nicely marked parent stock, but only only few most of the chicks will be nicely marked.
we need some copper on the chest of the rooster .
your cockerel is going to loose some of that coloured chest as he mature. this type of cockerel are good to use over a black hens ( black copper hens without a coppery hackels).
Gorgeous comb , nice face and nice feathered legs .
good type over all.

Yeah I do few cull at hatch, bent toes . twisted beak . deformed legs. under average weight .any physical deformity .
2nd time I do a culling week 9 when they finish with a heat and they are ready for outdoor .
