Black Copper Marans discussion thread

i have French black copper marans hatching. This is fi St chick to hatch. Came out of a very dark egg. Looks like a soft ginger or buff color with some dark maybe black pencil thin streaks. Shouldn't black copper hatch out black?

Maybe the Marans is really Wheaten or carrying Wheaten?

Hello, I have about 13 black copper marans chicks. I have some that are very mossy. My question is what should I write in my Grieglist ad about the mossy chicks and what should I price my mossy chicks at? I want to be honest and let people know what they are buying. The chicks are going on 6 weeks old today.

Looks mostly yellowish since dry. Think it might be white.

Here's my roo that developed a white tailfeather and some white in his neck.
Sadly he's got to go. I'll only have one roo left. Will have to find some chicks or eggs soon.

One of my hens has just a few on the back of her head/neck as well. I want to collect eggs this spring, so I'm interested in knowing if she shouldn't be passing her genes either. Don? What are your thoughts?

If the white on the back of her head are just little specks I would not worry about it, If you can keep her eggs separate and mark them for later identifying.
