Black Copper Marans discussion thread

my bcm pullet got some white on her earlobe. any idea where that come from? for the rest she looks like bcm and her eggs are about #6.

That comes from someone using one of the dark egg layers over Marans trying to get dark eggs. It happens in the USA also.

thank you. luckily I want marans for eggs only. I also keep 2 araucana pullets with my marans cockerel for olive eggers. I cannot find good birds for breeding marans.

8 out of 12 eggs in lock down, breeder already said if I get a low hatch rate she will give me new eggs since they had just moved at time of collection.

I told my husband that this is my last attempt with the black copper marans. They're beautiful birds with great personality but trying to find decent quality birds is next to impossible. I have 20 growing out. 2 are definitely mossy, one with a lot of shafting. This group is also very boy heavy. I'll be thrilled if I get a half decent quad. I'll have to get some pictures.

I feel exactly the same way! I have said almost these exact words. I though was just hoping for a trio!

Actually I am hoping for more than you because you are hoping for a quad from 20 and I am hoping for a trio from 12! Is it too much to ask? I am on my third batch! LOL

I have a question about leg feathering: should feathers be on outside toe only or in a line like fashion down the outside of the leg as well?
