So I have a question about this boy (the rooster, not my boyfriend lol). He's HUGE! The picture really doesn't do him justice. I know it's a large breed, but just look at his wattles (waddles?). Is this a normal thing, or not? I just got a whole flock of Marans that were given to me by my boyfriend's family after the passing of a loved one. Unfortunately, I know very little about the breed. I was told that the loved one once kept show quality birds, but like I said, I wouldn't really know. I am not planning on showing him, but it's jut nice to know.

His comb and waddles are both waaaay oversized. His feet also look quite strange (almost looks like he has too many toes). I don't think he's a purebred but I could be wrong. His comb almost looks swollen to me.

Ok thank you. I've never seen any other rooster like him. He's such a sweetheart, and really good with his girls! He's going to live out his life with me and the rest of my chickies. I appreciate it!

Get a photo of him on the ground, that will make it easier to see what he is actually like.

There isn't much to learn from him in that photo.

How much does he weigh? Do you have a rough idea how old he is?

As others have said the comb and wattles on your Marans cockerel are abnormally big. They are NOT in line with the breed standard. Below is a guide to combs from the English Standards book. It show three sizes to single combs. A small comb is #13, the medium comb is #7, and large comb is #8. The size of the comb is as important to a breed standard as the type. For a Marans you want a medium sized comb. Anything that approaches the large size moving away from what a Marans should be. Your cockerel's comb is way off the chart. It is at least an XL is not a XXL comb. So...not show quality for the Marans breed, but very interesting to see.
