Well at least there is consistency in the flock... I couldn't fit them all into the bowl.. this is about 1/2

I just cannot keep up with you peeps.

OK... I admit, my roo is pitiful. Please do not hurt me... this is what happens when you live in Alaska and you have a rooster that INSISTS on staying outside, despite your best efforts.

He's healing, and it has not diminished his, um, "enthusiasm" for the ladies.

Said ladies decided they wanted his tail feathers as souvenirs, too...

But it is finally growing back. I would appreciate feedback on his conformation and coloring. I do have another young buck, but he's still got a lot of growing to do before I even look at him.

The others ran outside so quick, I couldn't grab them, so I'll have to add photos later after they come in.

Yeah, the new spin on the name made me smile too. It really is almost true.

But geebs that's what you get for letting your girls nest all about the place willy-nilly. I'm sure that letting them nest au naturale in the wilds of your yard keeps 'em happy and laying lots of those nice eggies though.

Geebs. Too funny.

I just wish my birds would lay. Its in the 50's today so maybe the warm weather will kick start these girls. I have 4 hens right now and nada.

man you know it vc or cv whicheva... The free ranging sure shapes em up... I can live without eggs.. but I can't live without happy pets..

AK... so sad.. your poor fella.. Okay now you have a chance to answer a small argument I was having with someone... are your eggs fertile???? I have had a rooster with frostbite that was in a pen and all the eggies were infertile... was he mounting IDK but I wasn't getting chicks...

Wynette: bite me!!!! (chicken forum... peck me!).. LOL

I have developing eggs in the incubator as I type this.

My Orpington roo has lost his tips TWICE, is now three years old, and I have hatched hundreds of his babies.

My take on the whole frostbite/fertility thing is this... it's winter, they're not doing anything anyway. It's too freakin' cold! Plus, if it's really bad (and though his looks bad, it doesn't seem to bother him?

) but if it hurts, he's not going to be going after the ladies. SO... it is not that they are not fertile... they just aren't doing their business then.

I have not seen any drop in fertility of the eggs from pens that house frostbitten roosters.

If you owe Wynette money, Wynette, my take is 10%.
