Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Im fairly new to raising chickens, just got my first BCM hen, she hasn't layed for me yet... but sure is beautiful!

Here are my kids as 6 week olds. Pretty sure the only female is there on the right--smaller comb by 1/3 of the others...

This boy looks like he'll be pretty...

COOL! My first guesses were based on the length of their wings. Second guesses were all based on comb and wattle development.
Great pictures! Thanks for posting them.
I have to get outside and get some photos of my little Black Copper baby and one of the Blue Coppers. They hatched on the 3rd, from my first guesses at 3-4 days old: BCM- pullet and the Blue Copper- Roo. I haven't had time to do anything but make sure they are all safe and warm, fed and watered for a couple of days, so I haven't really looked at them. I think all 3 Splash babies from that hatch are girls too.

Let's see if this helps you out any more with those two you're unsure about:

I'm sticking with band #3 as a pullet and I will admit with band #1, I want to say pullet, the comb is throwing me off or maybe its the angle in which the head is that makes it look a little more prominent or wide, then it really is. Others will chime in and give their opinions as well and maybe they will see what I cannot and help confirm for you.

I agree with Pink Chick, but I think #1 is a girl. Its a guess though...

Last nights hatch. Chick on left is from my favorite Blue Marans pullet and I am hoping she gets some nice dark copper from her sire.
