Gos thanks everyone for the response. Guess new kids can't come and play?

I know right!

Folks, what is this all about? Please understand there are many, many folks who participate in this thread, but sometimes lots of us are not online. Please give people a chance to reply, and be patient.

sabella, I'm still catching up, not having been online for several days - I didn't realize you had ill chooks, glad to hear they're doing better!!! Yeah, never a good idea to flip them upside down.

Glad to hear the birds have improved. That's a great sign. Looks like you caught it in time, and took the right course of action.
I know what you mean, like you can't get enough. Sometimes I really wonder if I need help. We give away 60+ eggs a week now to folks in the village here who need help (but would never take a cash handout). And I've been hatching and growing out all winter despite freezing temps! Thank goodness we have a big basement. Starting last October I've hatched and grown out over 60 birds! I've got 11 EE's that just hatched. I'm starting to slow down a little, feeling the burden of the weeks of fussing over them all. No more hatching, really, until later this summer. I CAN'T hatch any more - we've got a BIG egg that hatches May 10 via C-section, that will suck up all my chicken time for at least a few weeks!

But you're in good company on this thread. The chicken madness is the common thread that bonds us all together.

Just heard back from the Ga Chicken Lab veterinarian. He said since it responded to abios so quickly then it's likely nothing but to give them a full 14 days on them and then a week off. If it comes back it is likely MG and will be tested. He said this is slim though as they are responding to the abios so well!

Sorry your post was overlooked Whimsy....sometimes topics at hand can get away with the thread. Posting again was great.....thank you for doing that. I don't know of any breeders in Kentucky but I know there has to be. Have you tried looking on the breeders list at the Marans Chicken Club USA or the Marans of America Club.....both have breeder lists and list states for those looking. I'm sure that others will be by and chime in and they probably have some of those names right on the tip of their tongues, unlike me. You could also try looking in the BYC section of buy, sell, trade or hatching eggs and birds. Are you looking for hatching eggs or are you looking for started chicks or birds?

Thanks for the response, I have contacted both address on Marans Chicken Club USA. There were some on feathersite for auction, however it was for a pair and at this point I really just want hens. I am over run with Foley Wyndottes and hubby may hurt me if I got another

Question: Do young black copper roos (4-5 months) sometimes have copper on their chest? One of my young roos has some and I'm wondering if that will molt out or??

You are wrong if you don't think new kids are not welcomed to come & play & that includes jarodw65. This thread flies by really fast as some of the others do too & alot of times posts get overlooked. You just have to stick to it & keep trying. I, myself lurked, just learning for a long time before I ever tried to step in. Slowly I started posting on occassion & now after some time I feel welcomed & part of the family here. There are soem people that don't post much but are here reading & will answer direct questions when asked. A very knowledgable one that is called on to answer questions for us frequaently even posts in his signature that he always answers his p.m.
Just keep reading & you will see alot more than you initially thought was before you.
Good luck to both of you newbies & welcome. Come on in & try....the water is fine..............

SO since it appears that I will get to keep my chikkies, any suggestions on photographing the wiggly little buggers? I'd like to get pics of too-much-leg-feathers and see if you guys think boy or girl.

Didn't mean to ruffle you ladies' feathers. I don't know what to do this is the most responses I've ever had to one of my posts lol just kidding... I know that not everyone subscribes and reads every post on this thread. I myself subscribe and I receive an email VIA my Droid everytime someone posts so I don't have to catch up... thanks for all of the knowledge each of you share I admire each of you! Now back to BCM's!
