Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I should also state that I have test mated this male on my dark BC females and the chicks have very little white down. They are mostly pure black , no brown markings yet. I will breed more of these as I clean the female out from the previous males. I have all of his test chicks toe marked so we shall see what happens. Don

I can forgive that one. These dudes are so used to everything being a constant, that any change can throw them off. Although, in your neck of the woods, I would have to assume that he's seen boots before?? One morning I went into the run with a knee brace on over my jeans, instead of under them. Clyde walked up behind me and stood there like he normally does, but then I felt a "bump". He had pecked at the different, and in his eyes, offending thing that was on Mom's leg!

I spun around to see if he was in the "fight mode", but he was just standing there like, "oops, my bad, all is ok". That was the end of it. If I feel the need to wear the brace, I now put it on under my jeans!

I know how to pick my battles!

I can so relate to the personal life being overwhelming just a "bit". . . .

I am tring so hard to keep everything in balance and make good choices - - -
BUT "OVERWHELMING" does seem like an accurate description of my personal life right now too.

When I brought my premature twins home from hospital, the nurse gave me the best advice I ever received - -

ONE DAY at a time - -- DEAL with TODAY and tomorrow will take care of itself.
That advice has Kept me STRONG and Sane thru some rough times.

It is so good to see I am not the only one who TRYS to grab a few minutes with this thread .. .
It is my "ME" time. It is my time to "ESCAPE" from some of these personal troubles.

Others Drink, Smoke, etc. .. . . I do "BYC - Marans" thread!

Thanks, Math. I just can't seem to catch a break lately. We had to put down yet another of our old dogs this past Tuesday. My head's been in a cloud. I've been caring for Arnie & doing lots of "extra" for him for over a year now. This is our 3rd dog in 7 months. They were all due to old-age related issues, but it still cuts to the core of me. I seldom let folks know about personal stuff like this, because I know there will be lots of eye rolling, etc. Not everyone understands a truly cherished relationship with a canine.

Anywho.....interesting talk!

Don, that WJ boy of yours - does he have the hackle stripes? He "appears" in the pic to have solid copper hackles - he also looks quite short - is he bantam or bantam-bred? Just curious! I really like the solid looking hackles & saddle on him. I am unsure if that is preferred? But for sure, it's REALLY pretty! Er...handsome!

Wynette, He has a narrow black stripe in hackle and saddle. His low to the ground is what I dislike most about the Wade Jeanne. He weighs about 8# 6oz. though. Last year I culled everything from this line for but this male and one female, decided not to drive 75 miles to meet up with someone working with Bantams to give the female away.

I like the big oversize Marans with plenty of leg to them. The black didn't show up because the camera operator does not know very much. Don

Ohh Wynette... I am so sorry.

I understand how much dogs can be a part of your family. I love mine. Just remember how happy they were. Nothing can have a more joyful life than a dog.

So sorry for your loss Wynette. I know how heartbreaking that can be--and it doesn't make it any easier that it was old age related. Sending you positive energy and strength to help you through this.
