I had a hankerin' this varmint was a cockerel since about the time he turned 2 weeks. Just had that feeling, you know? Fooey! But, I am ecstatic that I believe I have two pullets! Two out of three aint bad..... isn't that a song?

Well, from what I can see, it looks like the other 2 are pullets but it's pretty hard to tell. Man, are they ever growing!

awe....I'm so glad you are happy with them! Yes, they are pretty docile - I recall the first year I had them how friendly they were!

Good afternoon everyone! Wanting to know if any of you have had any experience with a roo blind in one eye? One of my two almost 6 mos. old bcm got his lower eyelid on one side torn and the lid was swollen shut. I noticed this two days ago in the afternoon, caught him, (they all free-range daylight hours) and smeared neosporin on it. I did the same when he was on the roost that night. Yesterday morning when I went to check on him, he was hovering in one of the next boxes with my NH roo pacing back and forth in front. He looked pretty beat up but upon further inspection, the back of his head had been pecked and his comb bloodied slightly, so, not too bad. As soon as I moved him to a solitary area he seemed fairly happy. I put more ointment on the eye. Checked him again at noon and he opened the eye slightly and it looked very cloudy so I am worried he may be blind in that eye. My concern is that in a free range community type environment (except for the breeding times) that he will be constantly beat up as he won't see the danger coming on the one side. Can they learn to compensate somehow? He is bottom of the pecking order of my 5 roos anyways but has never been hurt before, he just runs away. Any experiences any of you may have had would be helpfull, I am really sad, was very hopefull of this boy........... I have posted a picture of him from a month ago, you have all helped me critique him and I decided he was a definite keeper.

Zanna, I like him a lot! He might make it work, why not let him try?

Can you try putting optical Terramiyacin ointment in the eye, instead of neosporin?

From what I can see he is really nice looking. So he is getting picked on is there any way you can separate him and give him some girls? I think he is worthy of breeding or maybe you could cull out the other roos if you don't need them or make them a bachelor pen. Hopefully his eye will clear up but even if it didn't you can still use him for breeding since its not genetic.
