When I crossed them I had three chicks that looked like mossy BCMs and they had white cheeks like their mama. They were slight in size but laid a med. brown egg daily from the age of about 4 months. I sold all of them last weekend but I might have a picture somewhere of them and thier eggs. The SLW cross would be interesting you will get some interesting combs.

Here is is back shot. He is not very people oriented and I don't like to catch him and upset him so it is hard to get a picture. I really like his clean legs they are nice and smooth.

I'm curious what kind of tail angle you're getting on his offspring. Do you match him up with hens whose tails are not set quite so high?

His tail is only higer when he is running from the camera. I did purposefully cross him with BCM hens that had the 45* tail and a blue that is even lower.

Hey Geebs, you forgot your fenugreek and chaat masala. And the two ladies are settling in nicely. That blue girl already laid us a nice little egg but you're right it's breakfast not breeder. She's still really lovely.

Fenugreek?? Do you feed that to your hens? I wondered if a secretion enhancing herb would darken eggies... Two years ago I was making fenugreek BROWNIES for my wife (stifle the gag) because our newborn was both an impatient and voracious nurser. I haven't touched it since then, but was wondering if anyone tried it on their birds. Our new Samuel is a much more patient feeder, so hopefully no more mad science in the kitchen this time around!

LOL! I have used fenugreek for similar reasons, but just in tea form. Brownies...now that I have never tried!

To me fenugreek tastes like herbal popcorn. Not a great taste, bleh

Im a chef by trade and I like to make as many of my herbs and spices as possible. I have fenugreek seed that I save and then germinate and grow. I then take the leaves and dry them as methi. I cook a great deal of indian which calls for it. I also used it when I was breastfeeding but I've been wondering if there are thing in a birds diet that could improve egg color. Not sure but it doesn't hurt to try.
