Not actually bashing the brooder! Just have shavings flying all over the place. Scratch scratch, peck peck, cheep cheep. Having a big party over there. Only takes them a few minutes to have their water full of shavings.

For a breeder male he sure does have plenty of the correct color going for him. The sickle feather is nothing to worry about as I have plenty that are worse. The comb looks like he has some Bev Davis blood involved. I see nothing I do not like as long as there is no white feathers involved, very nice young male.

Thanks for your feedback, Don. I am going to look at him more closely tonight & get more pics - closeups of his head, and check for white undercolor. I am now second guessing my eye on the lobes, but I will get more/better pics tonight. I'm not great at picture taking, and I confess that I don't spend much time with my stock - thus, they are wary of me, which makes getting decent pics harder. But, I now have him in an outdoor coop/run, so I should be able to get some pics in the sun - YES, it is SHINING here today! Unbelievable. Sounds like it will be the last day until Sunday. Sigh.

Oh, bloodlines on this guy...I BELIEVE him to be mostly W. Jeane, but I'll double check on that. I've not had one in my flock with that much Jeane in the background, so I was unsure of what I'd get with this guy.

As for the kelp....I have no specific amounts of anything I use, I do not measure unless I absolutely have to. I sprinkle on or mix in probably 1/4 to a 1/3 cup or handful to a 5 gal bucket of feed and mix. I add kelp maybe 2 times a week.

Cowgirl / Pink - I do the same as Pink does. I'll sprinkle kelp over their wet treats, probably once a week. In spring/summer, yogurt. In fall/winter, oatmeal (made with steam rolled oats for horses...so much less expensive than "Quaker" or other brands of people oats).

The SOP says:
COMB: Single, moderately large, straight, upright, evenly serrated with five points; the blade not touching the neck.
I wish it was written more clearly than that. Like how far off the neck?

Kathy, Lisa's boys have more appropriate combs; my guy's comb is attached too far back. But comb issues are minor point deductions, so I am not concerned.
