Can't wait to see what you have come up with... So this is the scrap pile... okay... that makes sense... The male has gold in his hackle and is quite light in the beak/horn... I would have suspected he carried some wheaton.... those redheded males will be interesting...Have you ever grown any of those out???

My best males come from red collared females on a very strong colored male... So you think you have them breeding true???

I have never hatched a wheaten from this junk yet. I do believe there is wheaten and penne in the blood though.

Jan, I went through the first hatch about 130 BC and culled 15 for different things. Included in the cull are three mossy females, 2 males and 2 females with sprigs bordering on being carnation combs, and one that has carnation comb, one web toe, and extra copper in breast and this is the Brown chicks, he will be one of your posted boys soon as I get some one to help hold him to get some worthy pictures.

All the males are seperated in individual pens at present, wait until fall and lets see how these feather up and will talk to you about eggs. The only thing in question is the white in wing and tail and the hackle undercolor. I really like the size and type of these dark to Dark matings. Warning ahead of time I like large Marans and my males average 9-10 pounds.

Ayeup..nice avatar!!! Ya one of my boys got over 9 pounds ... The rest were gone before the final wieght was measured.... I think it is more of a hazard to be underwieght than overwieght.... for a bird of course.

The original standard was watered down from 8 1/2 pounds because our founding fathers didn't thank they could make more than 8 pounds.
