Naw seriously.. smiley failure.. I was trying to put one of the smilies and that is what came up... tried to fix it..won't fix... SMILEY FAIL!!!!

I guess for whatever it's worth I enjoy reading all information SOP or just for fun and like that it is in one thread (that way I don't have another thread to read). Thanks for all the information this far, our chicks are only 6 weeks but I am learning alot.

Hens and Roos... 6 weeks ya say.... Well it is like trying to eat one salted peanut... A slippery slope this marans thing is... Before you know it you may be running around with you best chicken chummie sporting ribbons won in a marans class.. ya just never know...

The dozen BCM advertised as Pure Bev Davis eggs I bought on a BYC auction are due to hatch tomorrow & are alying in the hatching tray at the bottom of the incubator. I was out there taking some notes & noticed a pip. I went back about 40 inutes later & there are 2 chicks out & several more pips. I tried really hard to do everything right for them so now I will not open that door until at least tomorrow & then only if I think they are finished. It may just be my imagination but it seems to be a great benefit to me. These were shipped eggs all the way from IN...... I am in California. I was convincing myself that the poor hatch rates had something to do with distance traveled??????? I have no clue at this point.

I hope I have the same luck. I ordered 12+ eggs from someone and there was a mix up in the order. They thought that they were sending wheatens and when they noticed the error they couldn't send me the darkest of the BCM eggs because they'd already set them in their bator. So she emailed me to tell me that they're sending me 12+ 6s and 7s AND they're sending another 12+ of 7-8s next week!

Man talk about good business! I just hope that everything goes well with those hatches!

Am I looking at these to correctly? is the the one on the left that has a black back a pullet and the one on the right with the copper coming in a cockerel? I have 2 that look like the left one, 2 that look like the right and a tiny runt that is in between.

The first day out for the 5.

Following their 2 month old broody turkey hen around. This girl has taken care of these chicks since they hatched.

Here they are in the brooder a couple days after hatch.

Lifesong Farm I raise turkeys too with my chicks they are very good "mothers" even the jakes I understand even the toms will set on eggs to give the jennies a break I've never seen that though.....looks like you might have them sexed right some I can tell right away others I have to wait until 8 weeks or so. Yours have more white to start with than most of mine have interesting

Hi, I am a lurker. Thought I would ask a quick question and then come back and post photos. I have four maran roosters from Bethel Plantation. I can only keep two. At what age should I decide if they are keepers or not?
