Hey Geebs - we could probably still go in on that cave together. I have a feeling come Spring I'm going to be busier than a bee and will disappear again. Only reason I have a few moments tonight is because it hasn't stopped raining all day and I mean torrential downpour raining so I'm house bound.

Not much going on here but I just wanted to share~my first, and oldest, BC Marans have started laying and are doing a pretty good job of laying every day after the first 4 eggs. There eggs seem to be getting darker also after the first one with is really nice. DH didn't know why I want this breed but after he saw the eggs he really likes them.

Hello everyone, I am new here and somewhat new to chickens in general. I thought I would ask for some *respectful* evaluations of my stock. I am really looking to hone my eye when it comes to BCM breed standards. I appreciate the feedback!

This is Junior - a homebred roo. Hatched late May of 2011. I kept him because he really just stuck out to me from the beginning.

This is Zippy, my foundation hen. Her name is silly but appropriate - she is always running everywhere!

My eye is certainly untrained when it comes to BCM standards, but my first impression is you really could do better.

I think you should box them up and send them to me so you have room for some good stock!

I totally thought you were serious with that first line and I was all like

But then I read the rest and was like "whew!"

Thank you so much for the compliment!

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a Black Copper Maran breeder in Washington state. Having terrible luck with eggs shipped from long distances. Would love to find a quality breeder locally. I'd be interested in chicks and/or eggs. If you have any for sale or know of any breeders I would so appreciate any info. Thank you so much!

When I saw the pic of your rooster I thought " sign me up for some of his eggs" Beautiful boy. I'm no expert, so I refrain from giving opinions. But he's lovely to me. ANd zippy, too. I get the name thing-- you should hear some that my boys use: Whitey (guess the color), Vultalina (think vulture), VUltalina 2, THe Police are 3 whitish EE . . . oddly they haven't named any of the marans yet . . . but then the 4 hens look exactly alike.
