Tell me your thoughts is my BCM a pullet or a cockerel? She’s about 12 weeks old. 😳

Gorgeous bird! I can sort of see the beginning of spurs on the ankles, so my guess would be roo. Is it just a wood chip or something?

Hello! I agree with @NanaK, and I too think it is a pullet. A cockerel would have larger and brighter comb and wattles by now, and more iridescent feathers all over his wings and tail. His hackle and saddle feathers would also be more of a fiery orange/copper color.

I don’t see any spurs, only spur buds. All chickens have these, but (usually) only roosters’ develop into long, sharp spurs :)

Thank you, she is gorgeous! I’ll have to check her more closely tomorrow and let you know if I see spurs.

Spurs are not indicative of gender in the slightest. Both genders have spur buds and some hens develop full-blown spurs. It takes almost a year for even a male to develop sizable ones. She's definitely a pullet :)

Pullet, as others have stated. Chiming in here because my Prairie Bluebell hen has spurs - it can happen. Took her a year to grow them, and they are smaller than the rooster's because she has narrower leg shanks, but yes, my happily egg laying hen has spurs and lays me an egg pretty much every day. I looked over at her one day and was like - are there spurs on that hen??? Sure enough...
