Is there any chance that these are black copper marans? I posted them before to try to find out what they were, thinking they might be a cochin or cochin mix. The lady I got them from told me they were about 3 weeks old which would make them almost 6 weeks old now (I think they are older). She didn't know what she had and I didn't know what these were, but they were pretty and we were buying some silkies from her and she'd made us a deal we couldn't pass up. They are small, so I was thinking they were some sort of bantams. But tonight I was looking at pics and thought they looked alot like black copper marans pics I saw.

HELP!!!!

Any thoughts are appreciated!!!

It's a pair. Roo and pullet. Color is B. C. Maran. If they stay small, something is rotten in the coop. B. C. Marans get big fast. Tim

If these are BCMs, I feel incredibly lucky!

Funny part is, I've been looking for marans or welsummers so I could have dark eggs, not having any idea they might already be in my coop.

They do have feathers on their feet. I have two with the combs and wattles and one without. I also have two other young chicks that could be the same thing. Guess we'll see!

I feel really bad to break bubbles here, I really do, but these little guys aren't Marans. These guys are bearded and look like they are bantams. They almost look like d'Uccles! But im sorry, they look like mixed breeds to me. I have Black Copper Marans, and Im so upset because I just realized that I dont have any pics them as chicks, and they dont look like them. The "copper" is only on the hackles (the head/neck area) of the hens and both the hackles and the sickles (the longer feathers on the back and base of the tail) on the roos. It is not one their chest, and they also have a reddish color on their wing coverts.
Marans also do not have such a nice pointy tail like that. They have the very hard distinct "7 feather" tail, where as the Marans have a softer tail that is not held so erect.

I have attached some pics of my BCMs, as well as my young Cuckoo Marans, showing what they look like at a young age. I also have pics of my Porcelain d'Uccle cockerel to show you what I mean by the distinct "7 feather" tail. In my opinion, I think they have a resemblence to the d'Uccle!

Again, im sorry to bare the bad news, but they are cute as can be! You will enjoy them either way!

Well I didn't really think they were BCM to begin with, so I'm fine

I was thinking they were some sort of bantam mix (and I got them for free), so I'm totally good with it. They're really sweet and they are beautiful, so I'll just have to get more chickens so I get my dark eggs

Like that's BAD news

Thanks for all the help!
