I hatched out this Black Copper Maren about 7 weeks ago. I don't know if it's a hen or a roo. I'm very new to having chickens. In fact Stella here is my very first (Shortly after hatching her I bought 3 easter eggers). I'm pretty sure it's a hen but I don't know. Any help?

Tried to take a picture of the comb but she wouldn't stop moving.

Judging from the colour/or lack of and size of the comb, I'd say its a pullet. I'm so expert concerning Cooper Marans, but from the birds I have seen, by seven to eight weeks, cockerels generally start getting scattered copper feathers at around that age. Females stay black longer.

I'd agree with Afterburner...I've only raised 8 Black Copper Marans but it was pretty obvious when I could compare them to each other, by 8-10 weeks the boys were looking like boys, combs much more developed, etc. I'd say you hatched yourself a pullet!

That was my guess. I was thinking that if it was a roo it would have starting getting color by now. I actually tried hatching 12 eggs but Stella is the only one I got. I'm SO happy she's a Stella not a Steve! :)
