Hi. I guess this question is for the geneticists out there: I have a Black Isbar rooster named Olaf, and I'm currently incubating 7 eggs from my Blue Andalusian hen named Winter. I'm just curious what kind of color patterns I can expect? Based on what I've read, within the Isbar breed itself, if you cross a black with a blue you get a 50/50 black - blue probability. Do you think that would hold true with a blue hen of another breed? I would guess the blue gene(s) wouldn't be confined to a certain breed.

What about egg color? Andalusians lay a bright white egg, while Isbars are known for their green eggs - would the egg color be a combination of the two, or would it go one way or another?

I've had chickens for just about 2 years, so I still have a ton to learn about them.

Thanks in advance!

You will get roughly 50/50 black and blue chicks statistically speaking. The pullets will probably lay an egg that is slightly lighter green than a pure Isbar.

I had a leghorn/EE girl who laid a really light mint green egg. Her egg is next to a leghorn egg.

That would be cool if the eggs came out that color - it would sure add some variety to my egg basket

Are Black Isbars actually Birchen? That seems to be the case from a google image search. (Not that it should affect your chicks' colouration besides their maybe having some silver leakage; i'm just curious.)
