I acquired a young 3 month old black giant pullet (Bertha). I have never had this breed. Are they good layers? I have read online that they are pretty good but I wanted an actual opinion from someone that has some. How are they compared to Australorps? Thanks!

I have Jersey Giants and GLWs and I love them both, but you can't beat my Jersey Giants for consistent egg production. They lay in the summer heat, in the frigid winter, always. They also were the first to lay of mine although I thought they would be last because they take longer to fully mature. Great birds. I am getting some new hens next year and the majority will be Jersey Giants because I am so pleased with them.

excellent! My neighbor just picked up 4 Jersey Giant chicks to put under a very broody hen (she took to them just like a mama should) and they're SO cute. I can't wait to watch them grow up. She sells her eggs - I look forward to telling her you like them!
