Black Marks on Roosters Comb?

Does anyone know what the black marks might be on our New Hampshire Red rooster's comb?

Something I should be concerned with or is this normal?

He looks like a fine specimen. Have you tried wiping his comb with a soft, warm slightly soapy cloth? Kind of get it between your fingers with the cloth? Or maybe try a q-tip with the same?
