Hi. I found a hard mass on the back on my cream legbar. She is 2 years old.
It was hard as a rock, smelled like poop.
I soaked her in Epsom and work my way around the base. It was really stucked to her. She did.not bleed, bit the skin was a little raw and macerated underneath.
I have a picture of the thing i removed cracked opened.
I can't believe it is poop. She roosts at night. She is at the.bottom of thr pecking order, but no recent injury, no blood.
No mites.
Eating well. Acting normal.

A photo is very limited in what information it can tell us. It's two dimensional, after all. For the third dimension of information, we need you to describe the consistency of the lump. Is it hard like a rock, soft like cream cheese or somewhere in between like wax? Slice it. Does it have layers?

Is she laying? If not, how long has it been since she produced an egg?

What is her behavior? Active? Lethargic? Normal weight or is her keel bone protruding? What does her poop look like? A photo of the poop and of the hen would help.

That doesn't look like poop.

Can you get a CLEAR photo of the spot you took this off of the bird?

IMHO that don’t look like poo to me, but i wonder if she roosters lower than some maybe one ppped on her back. what do all you eggsperts ( pun intended lol) but all kidding aside all of you with way more experience than me what’s your hours? when i was gone out of town for 6 weeks my 14yr old grandaughter tended to the chickens without supervision even though they are her chickens. But anyways i noticed a hard balls about the size of a quarter on one of my 7-8 month old pullets toes i picked her up and fiddled with and it finally broke apart n it came off. it seemed like a ball of hard dirt. has anyone seen this?
i hope you figure out what was on yours.

She is looking healthy, eating.
She eas laying up to last weeks. All.mybother hens stopped for molting at the moment. I thought she was doing the same.
Very hard to take a picture l. I will try alone with my husband.
But from what I can see. It is coming back 😓
On her back and under her wing. I will post better pictures tonight.

This is on her back
It does look infectious.

no poultry vet here. And very hard to get meds in Canada. Do you think topical only could save her?
