If I had a market for black meat birds, I would produce some. You could also substitute the australorp with a slow growing meat bird sold by Ideal poultry. The bird is a black variety.

Like a Jersey Giant? Or a Langshan?

Jersey giants and langshan take years to mature to a large bird. The slow meat birds sold by Ideal take about 3 months and are ready to harvest. If person wants meat- less time means less feed- which means a less expensive product to put on the table.

I don't think the OP was talking about meat from black chickens, I think s/he was talking about chickens whose meat is black-like Silkies.
