Who treats their chickens with black oil sunflower seed? Is it just the kind I give my birds in the birdfeeder? Do chickens digest the shells ok? Shelled sunflower seeds are really expensive, but I was wondering if this was just as good?

I feed my flock BOSS in the hull as part of their regular diet. As long as they have access to grit they'll have no trouble grinding the hull.

I give mine, in moderation of course, a mixture of cracked corn, oats, and birdseed mix (the one with BOSS, milo, etc, since it's cheaper). They meet me at the door when they see the white cup coming. I also feed the wild birds. It seems to keep them out of the chickens feed. Never seen a wild bird in their feed.
