Do you prefer black or yellow labs? I know that each individual dog has his or her own personality, but I also understand that each color of lab dogs is slightly different in temperament, etc. Please vote!

I vote yellow. They look dirtier, and yellow hair is a pain, but I think they're temperament is better. The temperament definitely vary's depending on color. Blacks seem to be more high strung, I've heard that Chocolates aren't as quick to learn, though I have no experience with that.
We know two people with black labs, and they both have the same temperment. They're higher energy, and do a lot more barking. We've had 3 yellows and all have been mellow, and rarely bark. :idunno
Yellow all the way! :)

Also, I think it depends on what you want the dog for, your barking tolerance, etc.
Like I said, I have found that other lab colors are much louder than our yellows. Comet and Ember never bark, other than at a car in the driveway, or the hen's egg song. ;)
This is just a Google search, but is interesting.

I had a black one that was mellow, and almost never barked. When choosing the puppy, we did ask the breeder to help us pick one of the calmer puppies. One of the few yellows in the litter was identified as the LEAST calm puppy! (But even that least-calm puppy grew up to be a fairly calm adult.)

My black one (calm, quiet) was the English type.

I would expect the color matters less than the purpose for which they were bred (therapy, English/show, American/field).

I don't really have a preference between black and yellow, but a different family member strongly prefered black, so that's what we had.

This is a good post. It probably matters more what the breeder is breeding for, the line of dogs, etc than the color. The blacks I have experience with were not from the same blood line as our Yellows, so I guess there isn't a real comparison.
I've only had yellows though, so may be a little bias. ;)
