Hey, all!
I have a 13-14 week old black orphington. I've been trying to determine if it's a rooster. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!! I tried to get decent pictures of the tail feathers.

He looks kinda thinner than I'm used to seeing in stags and I don't know why I can't make out saddle feathers very easily (it's the haze)... But I will still say I don't see what I refer to as a "hen bump" in front of his tail... and I would indeed be thinking it is a cockerel.

Indeed, they don't technically get their hen or roo badges until they reach the age of 1 year old. ;)

Welcome to BYC! I hope you love it as much as I do. :frow

Looks like a cockerel to me, but not a black orpington, too fine boned, close feathered and way longer tail feathers than Orp boys normally have at that age.

Cockerel. Very handsome young guy! And :welcome!

I agree with @KikiLeigh02. Black Australorp or Jersey Giant, an Orpington would have pale legs. You'll have to check the bottoms of his feet to tell for sure, but his stance and posture makes me think Jersey Giant. He'll be a very impressive rooster when he's older.

Interesting! I was told when we purchased it at 2 days old it was a black orp. This makes more sense now since my buff is the same age and is MUCH smaller and looks quite different besides the color.
