quickie question,,, whats the difference ( appearance) between the orps,, and the black astro's.

That's good to know. I'm going to do some research on the differences myself. thanks I do know it would be unethical to sell one breed as the other.

welcomes ,, i just had these hens givin to me, and my black astro is still young, and i thought for sure the hens were BA's, but was worried bout the green sheen to them,,,, THEN i saw your orps,, and made me second guess,, lol

Sara, i like your black orps..they look pretty good..
As for 'lorps, there aren't much difference in them, one thing i know is they are suppose to be a much better egg layer. as for size it all depends on how you breed them..hatchery stock can vary in 'Lorps as well as Orps..

I have a friend who has black lorps and a another friend who has black orps..its funny cause the freind with the lorps had bigger birds than the orps friend did for most of the birds. but of course he had been breeding his lorps for over 8 years and selected them for size.

Most 'Lorps Ive seen you couldn't Tell the difference between them and black orps, of course i always thought the black eye or doll eye of the lorps was a good give away..

There sizes are so close or can be. One thing to remember is that Lorps where created using Orps..

Jim most black breeds should have a nice sheen to them

My guess between the Black Orps and Aussies is the reddish exposure of the face. If it got alot, then it might be an Aussie.
