I was just out in the chicken coop this morning and I noticed a few spots where there was black poop. I've never noticed this before. My husband has been feeding the chickens the last few days so it could have started yesterday or so.

We have a mixed flock of 8 adult red star hens and 6 black star pullets that are about 14 weeks old. Other than what looks like some molting going on, they are all normal looking. They are active and happy. They've been on Flock Raiser for about 2 weeks or so. They have lots of water.

Does the "flock raiser" have a hight protein content ?
Chick starter feeding in an adult bird will do this too.
There is a website that has poop identification, colors and substance. I would be breaking the BYC rules if I told you what site it was. Do some research on google, you will find it.

I respect the moderators on this site, they do a heck of a job.

I'll google it. Thanks for the tip. I tried the search on this site but didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I'm sure it's been discussed countless times but I didn't come across it.
