If i pull that black tissue off will it damage her vent. Im afraid to pull to much but i guess i need to get it all off. ThanksYou will want to do a daily warm soak in soapy water, and take a washcloth or rag and rub the skin to debride the dark part off. You will need to do this until it bleeds slightly, and then you will have reached healthy tissue. Black tissue is necrotic or dead tissue, so it needs to be removed gradually. Apply some plain neosporin ointment to it to keep it moist and prevent infection. Then when the tissue looks healthy, push it back inside. Some chickens get over a prolapse, while some do not. They can recur. Things that cause a prolapse, such as overlarge eggs and egg binding, can damage the vent permanently. Keeping her in a dark room or covered cage for 16 hours every night, and reducing food or protein in the diet temporarily, can help to stop laying for a time to heal.
