Black Sex-link? Hen or rooster?

Oh, wow! This is my first foray into the chicken world. Not sure I'm up for that, yet! And I don't seem to be having much luck with buying from sellers who know what they have!

None of these are turning to be what the sellers originally told me they were.

you should keep him and get some maran hens and hatch some eggs and sell the chicks

No offense, but he's not that great a quality bird, not breeder quality. Unless all you want to do is churn out chicks. A breed like Marans needs all the help it can get right now, and diluting the gene pool with sub standard birds is detrimental to the entire breed.

I've pretty much decided he's gonna go. Now that it looks like I have 3 roosters, I'm thinking of just selling all 3 and replacing with hens. That was my original intention, but that was sidetracked by someone who apparently didn't have as much knowledge as she thought. Oh well! Live and learn!

I know, and I appreciate all of the advice and information from everyone! Unfortunately, I am just too new and too nervous to attempt to hatch eggs. Maybe in a few years, but he's not overly friendly so if I do, I'll probably look for a sweeter rooster. Same breed, because he is beautiful. Just sweeter. Maybe one I can raise from a baby to be sweet!

But your thoughts are very welcome and give me something to consider and look forward to!

And, oh my gosh! I just realized that my post sounded as if I were talking about you not knowing what you were talking about! That was NOT AT ALL what I meant! I was talking about the woman who sold the birds to me, assuring me of what breeds they were and that they were all hens. So, far she was wrong about the breed of every single one and I have 3 roosters out of a total of 8 birds. She's the one who didn't have as much knowledge as she thought.

I am so very sorry that I wasn't paying enough attention to realize that it sounded like I was talking about you! Your idea about breeding was wonderful, just not for me at this time. Please accept my deepest apology.
