Black sex link surprise??

Good to know! I was hoping to not get any roosters. I guess we'll see...

I'm still very baffled about that little one lol
It's not that uncommon to get chicks with unexpected coloring, especially with mixed breeds like black sex links. It's just the fluke of genetics that sometimes non-dominant genes from the mother mixed with non-dominant genes from the father combine to express those hidden genes in an offspring. And sometimes you get sports, which are color gene mutations. These mutations brought us all the color varieties we now know from the original wild type coloring of ancestral red jungle fowl.

Ahh okay, you definitely just taught me something! Thank you! Is it often that one would hatch completely different?? Could this difference also be why she was struggling to hatch out herself?
The hidden genetics popping is kinda random.

Rolling DND dice for every chick. A D6: 1-3 is male, 4-6 is female. Next roll a D20. Crit nat 20 or nat 1 for hidden colors. Rest is expected colors. Roll D20 again for hatching. 1-5 is assisted hatch. Each roll for each egg, not connected to each other other than applies to the egg. General concept.
