If you breed a Rhode Island Red hen with a Barred Rock rooster, will you get the same result with the Black Sex Links as if you breed a Barred Rock Hen with a Rhode Island Red rooster? I am new to this an everything I have read says you do the later to get the Black Sex Links so I was just wondering if the reverse would work as well.

No. A Barred Rock male will pass the barring gene to both male and female offspring equally. The reason it works with a Rhode Island Red male and Barred Rock female is the Barred Rock female passes the barring gene to the male offspring only. The barring gene is expressed with a white spot on the top of the head. They are sexable at hatch by a mere glance.
