So I was given some black hens to start my flock. I also got a RIR and a banty Blue Cochin/RIR cross. I was told they were black sex links. One is definatly mixed with a polish as she has a mohawk. They are black and have a blue/green sheen to their feathers. They are about 10-11 months old. I thought they would be bigger. Can anyone tell me what they are or might be a mix of? They lay a small light brown egg.

They look a little like my mom and dad's austrolorp. I LOVE the one with the mohawk! She needs a really special name. Nice looking hens. Wow! You have GRASS in your run!

Don't have a clue but I LOVE the mohawk!!

So at 10-11 months do you think they will get bigger or are they banty? Im still researching my breeds, but being a single mom having layers given to me im not complaining. And they are so funny to watch dust bathe.

Their coloring is like a black australorp, but their body size and shape, and their combs and wattles look like sex links. My australorps have much bigger combs and wattles, but black sex links often have some reddish feathers on their neck, hackles and chest. Tough call. Both breeds are excellent, though, so maybe it won't matter to you.

Can't help you with the poof headed one. Maybe it's a cowlick.

well it could still technically be called a sex link depending if they used a barred rock hen, guess it doesnt matter what kinda red roo is used to make the sex link.....
i mean realy they could use any barred hen with any red roo and still technically be called black sex links right????
