I'm new to peafowl & I'm trying to figure out the genetics I guess you'd say on this cross. From what I've read, BS is just a color mutation (dilution?) of the India Blue & when crossed all chicks will be an IB since it's the dominant color. Well, my question is: I just brought home 2 peachicks from this cross, with one being brown & the other white (peachy) in color. So what do I have? I thought the whiter chicks were BS, or are they color-sexed? Thanks for any info!

I've only had peas since 2010 and I'm still learning as I go.. but without seeing pics of your babies, it sounds to me like you have a BS chick (white/peachy) because both parents donated a BS gene to it and you also have an IB chick (brown) that is split to BS. Neither of those varieties are sex linked, so if your chicks are still just lil bitty babies you will have to wait a while until they mature/feather in to be able to figure out what sex they are. Post some pics of them if you can, we'd love to see.

I should also add that lot of Peas are split to other colors and carrying hidden genes, so you may even end up with something totally different than what the parents birds appear to be.

Thanks! I'm usually on here over emus but I'm new to peafowl, I've been wanting them for a while until I finally found these. I just made a new thread posting pics, I couldn't get them to load on this thread...thanks again for the info, any info is new to me at this point. I asked the breeder earlier if he knew what the parents' origins were so hopefully he knows.

If you have a light colored chick, it's likely a BS (unless there's something else tricky going on!).

In order to get a BS chick, both parents have to be carrying BS, but don't necessarily have to be visibly BS.
That is to say, if one of the parents is not 100% BS, but split to BS, they would look like a regular IB.

So while you may think you have a BS + IB combination, you could could actually have a BS + IB split to BS combination, and therefore produce full BS chicks.

I hope that made sense!

*eta: Oops, I didn't see the other thread. That little guy does look too white to be BS, maybe?
Here's our BS girl when she was a chick:
