Hello Peafowl friends.
The first time, we only had one peafowl chick and no experience.
It was very difficult to determine what it would be.
So we waited about three months, then the first colors would appear on the neck, and it would be easier to see what it was.
The second time, we had two chicks, and it was very easy for us. After just the first two weeks, we could clearly see the differences between male and female chicks.
Watch out for!
1. The crest of feathers on male chicks develops later and is a little lighter in color than on female chicks. Even though they are a little older, the crest of feathers is not as full as on female chicks.
2. The male chicks are visibly taller than the female chicks. When they are standing side by side, it's easy to see.
3. The lower legs above the feet are significantly thinner on female chicks than on male chicks. This is best seen when looking at the birds from the front.
The chicks are now 3 months old, and the first colors are becoming visible. Even with the first color on the neck, it's not that easy; they initially look green. Only when the sunlight hits at a certain angle can you see the blue on the male chick.
I took a closer look at the feathers of the adults. In my opinion, the neck feathers have four colors: a kind of gray, brown, green, and blue. The colors become visible at different angles, when the sunlight hits them. In females, the green is more pronounced than the blue. In males, it's the other way around; the blue is more pronounced than the green.
Sometimes the blue of the peacock also looks green, or the other way around with the green of the peafowl hen it looks blue, only the color is not as intense.
I hope you can also observe these differences in your peafowl chicks, good luck.
