Several, some don’t. How do we treat. This is my first ever flock. They have been healthy and well cared for. Will this kill them? How did they get it?It looks like fowl pox to me. Do any other flock members have these similar spots?
You get fowl pox from mosquitoes. Do you have mosquitoes where you are at?Several, some don’t. How do we treat. This is my first ever flock. They have been healthy and well cared for. Will this kill them? How did they get it?
We do have mosquitos but more in summer than now. Hardly any now but still out there. We don’t have lots of standing water but our neighbors do How can we determine the type if it’s wet or dryFowl pox needs to run its course. Putting iodine on the scabs will help them dry up faster.
Some chickens die, most don't. It depends if it is dry or wet fowl pox and how bad the case is when you notice the fowl pox.
Yours looks like dry fowl pox. Wet fowl pox would be in the mouth and not black but yellow spots. You could check in their beak to make sure. Fowl pox can take weeks to run its course there is no cure but the iodine does help. There is also a vaccine you can give to your flock if they don't have fowl pox but since the others have some spots, chances are they all have it.We do have mosquitos but more in summer than now.
