I had my first complaint today about my eggs. An older gentleman, who bought some eggs from me, came in and told me that out of 8 eggs that he got from me, 3 of them had small black spots, like pepper grains in the yolks. some had one spec, some had 2. I know about blood spots, but I've never heard of black specs in the yolks.
My hens are all 1 year old (march 16th), and have been in the coop all winter. They hate the snow (but love to eat it if I put a snowball in with them) and won't go out even if I open the doors. I haven't changed their food at all, and they haven't been getting any treats other than the occasional broken egg and regular scratch. I collect the eggs 3 times per day and refrigerate them right away, and I do have a rooster
Anyone have any ideas?
Mary
