Hi all,
I noticed this evening one of my girls has some black spots on her comb and wattle (picture below). They almost look like mold. The spots do not rub off. No white rings or anything. Is this from pecking? I haven't really noticed any serious pecking among them, and she's actually not the most docile of my group of three.
Incidentally, one of them started laying yesterday. I'm not sure exactly, but it seems like my welsummer (in my profile pic) is the only one doing it so far, but the eggs are white. She and the buff orp both are doing the egg squat, but the white leghorn hasn't yet. Is it possible for either buff orps or welsummers to lay white eggs, at least in the beginning? Could it be that the real lay is my white leghorn, and that's the cause of her black spots?
Thanks, Jessica
